Bill James is a baseball researcher/historian and prolific author who created the term "sabermetrics" and popularized the field. His most important contributions to sabermetrics came in his Baseball Abstracts, published annually from 1977-1988. Other notable books by James include the Whatever Happened to the Hall of Fame?, and Win Shares.
