Craig Wright, along with Tom House, is the author of The Diamond Appraised, which was published in 1989. Wright and House were both employed by the Texas Rangers at the time, House as a pitching instructor, Wright as a sabermetric consultant.

Wright's work in The Diamond Appraised covered several topics, ranging from trying to measure a catcher's contribution to his pitcher's performance as measured by CERA (Catcher's Earned Run Average) to a seminal attempt to measure young pitcher workload and gauge its effects on long-term pitcher health.
