Apparently I was the only person who was interested in this, but thanks Tango. I was going to e-mail you back about this, but might as well ask here. Rather than looking at DPs which actually took place, might it back more sense to look at DP situations where were ground balls hit to infield zones in which they usually would be turned into double plays and thereby remove the influence of the defense? I understand this is significantly more work and am not asking you to do it, just curious if this method would do a better job of answering the question.

The statements in the article about walking Bonds are really too vague to determine if they are talking about the same things that Tango was last year. The idea that managers make the decision for which they are least likely to be criticized, rather than the best decision, is not particularly novel. I would guess these guys have uncovered some interesting stuff, but there's no way to tell from the article what it is.

I cannot say I understand everything going on in this thread, but even what I have been able to glean seems really outstanding. With this, the music thread, the civil war thread, and the California recall thread running, this is just a fascinating time to be on Primer.
