What value firemen? (July 6, 2003)

  Tango,
Can you elaborate on where you got some of the numbers in this discussion? Is +2runs/9 innings just a reflection of era compared to league era? How do you know the run converter is 5 to 6 instead of 10-11...is that just logic or is there some numbers to back it up?

DIPS year-to-year correlations, 1972-1992 (August 5, 2003)

  Tango,
So is this verifying that there is small ability in preventing hits on balls on play, and the low year to year correlation of BABBIP can be explained by the "tightness" or range in the true abilities? Seems to me, that this still supports DIPS, in that ability is so small it can be left out in evaluations. What should we be apologizing to RossCW for? I'm not saying we shouldn't..I'm just asking if you could give more of a translation for the DIPS and statistical laymen among us. Thanks

I think I'm confused. Isn't PBP data being used if you need to know the base/out/inning situation of every occurence? That's hardly easily available data.

  MGL,
I was wondering if you would willing to submit your OPS and ERA player projections for 2001-2003. I am trying to do an independent research project during my final semester at college comparing various projection systems. Being the poor student that I am its been hard to come across the needed data. Please email the above address if you could help me out. I would really appreciate it! Keep up all the good work. I enjoy reading your input on all these threads. (I probably should have posted this on a different thread)

I am doing a study comparing projection systems using 2001-2003 data. If anyone has any of these past projection years data stored on your computer or in book form please let me know. I could really use your help. The data could be from any of the fantasy baseball websites or your own personal projections. I already have DMB, Shandler, and Ken Warren's projections. Thanks for the help...

Let's get outside the fantasy realm for a minute...what do you guys think would be the best method (to normalize or not, use correlations or rmse, only use OPS, etc.)for a Major League front office that is comparing these projection systems......I would love to hear everyone's input because this is the topic I am doing my research paper on and I need some help....
