I might add that most (non-neutral) ballparks favor either HRs or other extra-base hits. Few favor both (I could be wrong, but does anyone know if there is a park which increases HRs AND 3Bs?). This would tend to drag down cycles as well. Well, I guess in this era any pro-triple ballpark will increase the odds of a cycle, but you get the point.

Maybe defense is more important for doubles & triples, which would make other factors (like pitcher skill) more important for singles.

So if I am interpreting this chart correctly, it appears as if the difference between an average baserunner and the best baserunner is about 1/3 of a win, or 1 Win Share. Ditto for the worst baserunners, unless you are a complete cripple. Which means I second studes' comment about MGL's comments - these adjustments to a player's offensive contributions are somewhere between marginal and neglible.

I'd like to see this broken down for hitters and pitchers separately. It seems to me that the pitchers are seriously affected by injuries, much more so than batters. And it was mentioned that hitters did not suffer from the "sophomore slumps" as much/often. Without more information, it's tough to compare the two groups. There may be pitcher/hitter effects beyond injuries, but I can't tell.
